چکیده

The most expressive way humans display emotions is through facial expressions. In this work we report on several advances we have made in building a system for classification of facial expressions from continuous video input. We introduce and test different Bayesian network classifiers for classifying expressions from video, focusing on changes in distribution assumptions, and feature dependency structures. In particular we use Naive–Bayes classifiers and change the distribution from Gaussian to Cauchy, and use Gaussian Tree-Augmented Naive Bayes (TAN) classifiers to learn the dependencies among different facial motion features. We also introduce a facial expression recognition from live video input using temporal cues. We exploit the existing methods and propose a new architecture of hidden Markov models (HMMs) for automatically segmenting and recognizing human facial expression from video sequences. The architecture performs both segmentation and recognition of the facial expressions automatically using a multi-level architecture composed of an HMM layer and a Markov model layer. We explore both person-dependent and person-independent recognition of expressions and compare the different methods. 2003 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved. * Corresponding author. Facial Expression Recognition from Video Sequences: Temporal and Static Modelling

Human-computer intelligent interaction (HCII) is an emerging field of science aimed at providing natural ways for humans to use computers as aids. It is argued that for the computer to be able to interact with humans, it needs to have the communication skills of humans. One of these skills is the ability to understand the emotional state of the person. The most expressive way humans display emo...

Hand Gesture Recognition from RGB-D Data using 2D and 3D Convolutional Neural Networks: a comparative study

Despite considerable enhances in recognizing hand gestures from still images, there are still many challenges in the classification of hand gestures in videos. The latter comes with more challenges, including higher computational complexity and arduous task of representing temporal features. Hand movement dynamics, represented by temporal features, have to be extracted by analyzing the total fr...

Dynamic Facial Expression Recognition Using A Bayesian Temporal Manifold Model

In this paper, we propose a novel Bayesian approach to modelling temporal transitions of facial expressions represented in a manifold, with the aim of dynamical facial expression recognition in image sequences. A generalised expression manifold is derived by embedding image data into a low dimensional subspace using Supervised Locality Preserving Projections. A Bayesian temporal model is formul...

Inexact Graph Matching for Facial Feature Segmentation and Recognition in Video Sequences: Results on Face Tracking

This paper presents a method for the segmentation and recognition of facial features and face tracking in digital video sequences based on inexact graph matching. It extends a previous approach proposed for static images to video sequences by incorporating the temporal aspect that is inherent to such sequences. Facial features are represented by attributed relational graphs, in which vertices c...
